AZKOUL – Edmund John Azkoul, age 91, of Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2011. He was a veteran of World War II. In the 40’s and 50’s Edmund was known throughout West Michigan as Eddie Koul. Orchesta and band conducter, musician, arranger, and composer. He was heard over the airwaves as a radio personality and announcer at WLAV radio station. Eddie was a lifelong salesman and merchandiser for Herpolshiemers, Wurzburgs, RCA and the owner and operator with his wife of the SherryMark clothing stores. But his greatest passion was his devotion to his wife, children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Joseph. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Barbara; children, Sherry (Craig) Morrissey-Forsythe, Mark (Anne) Azkoul; brothers, William (Bernice) Azkoul, Robert (Bonnie) Azkoul; grandchildren, Ryan and Marc Morrissey, Leigh Azkoul. A celebration of Ed’s life will be held Saturday 10:00 a.m. at the O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Rd. SE with Ed’s family officiating. Interment Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association , P.O. Box 888877, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49588-8877.
