While attending Grand Valley State, he originally formed Riverun with Jack Wolotira in the Spring of 1969. Mike’s pulsating keyboard and saxophone solos were always the highlight of every Riverun set. During the Summer of 1971, several members of the group, including Mike, relocated to Missoula, Montana but returned to the Grand Rapids area that Fall. After receiving a kidney transplant in 1973 which according to Mike, “stopped me from being a pro musician”, he left the group and eventually relocated to Portland, OR where he lives today.
