Was a cellist in the Grand Rapids Symphony for over 30 years (RIP)
TULLER, ROBERT S. Robert S. Tuller, “Papa Baby” 98, of Grand Rapids died Friday, October 5, 2012. He is survived by his step children, Peter (Kay) Luce, Robert Luce and Margot (Joseph) Saladino, ten grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Robert was a cellist in the Grand Rapids Symphony for over 30 years, and the last few he held the honor of first chair. He played multiple instruments and accompanied many famous people. He was called a real showman. He was a WWII veteran and was the recipient of a Purple Heart with the Oak Leaf Cluster. Robert continued his music career with many bands and was a successful and well known piano tuner in Grand Rapids. On March 14, 1955 he married Lorna Luce to whom he was married for 50 years. They formed the Tuller Trio where Lorna played the piano and he played the bass and they performed for hundreds in the area. Shortly after the death of his wife in 2004, he went to live at the Grand Rapids Home for the Veterans. For five years he enjoyed the company of the wonderful staff and residents. He played the piano for anyone who would listen, would often break out in a little hip rotating dance and was always smiling. Papa Baby will be truly missed by so many! Services will be held on Friday, October 12 at the Grand Rapids Home for the Veterans, 3000 Monroe Ave, NW. The family will greet friends from 12 to 1 and a celebration of life will follow at 1 pm in the chapel. Memorial contributions can be sent to The Grand Rapids Home for the Veterans.
