The Eschelons

Grand Rapids

The Eschelons website is at: http://www.eschelons.com

Along with Bob and the Bandits, The Rocking Revells, and the Kingtones, they were one of Grand Rapids first rock and roll bands!

The Band started in 1959 and has been reincarnated with original members and today packs sell out venues wherever they go. This is Doo-Wop at an Ed Sullivan level.

The band settled with six-members who are considered the original Eschelons and were featured on the band’s first record, “Lonely Christmas,” released in 1961. They are: Vic Hill, Jack Hazewinkel, Jim VanPutten, Al Bischoff, Dick Beatty, and Ron Beatty.

Sad news. The Eschelons, 2012 MRRL inductees from Grand Rapids, have announced that they will hang up their rock and roll shoes in July after completing a series of scheduled gigs. Three current members plan to carry on in a new band to be called FreeHand.

Looks like we are going to crank up the jukebox one more time. It’s been almost two years since we last performed those 50s and 60s favorites. We just confirmed that we will return to the Boat & Canoe Club on Saturday, June 10. Music from 7 to 11 p.m. and $5 cover at the door. Ron Beatty

Hysterical Society wants to congratulate The Eschelons on being picked as Band of the Week. They are one of the oldest Rock & Roll groups from Grand Rapids, back to 1959 and reincarnated the original group of players. They do DooWop at it’s very best, as I’ve heard them. It brings you back in time. Admin. Doug Taylor
