Harry Lucas and the Lowdown is a Grand Rapids, MI based blues band. They have been playing their heart-felt blues in the West Michigan area for over 15 years. During their career they have had the opportunity to open for legendary blues acts such as Buddy Guy and Johnny Winter. They were regional winners of the Marlboro Music Talent Roundup in 1990, and went on to compete in Nashville, Tennessee where they placed within the top eight among bands from all over the nation. They have played numerous high-profile gigs throughout Michigan including: Celebration on the Grand, Grand Rapids Blues and Jazz Festival, Grand Rapids Festival of the Arts, Grand Haven Coast Guard Festival, the Irons Flea Roast and Ox Market Festival, Kalamazoo Blues Festival, Muskegon Summer Festival and the Lowell Showboat. They have three CDs available: Fistfull of Blues (1997), Junkyard Dog (2001), and their latest CD, Don’t Give Up! (2005). The band plays a wide variety of blues and have been influenced by the Chicago styles of Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf and the Texas styles of Freddie King, Albert Collins, and T-Bone Walker. They also pay homage to some of the modern day players such as Ronnie Earl, Duke Robillard, Eric Clapton, Robert Cray, the Vaughan brothers, and the Fabulous Thunderbirds. While honing their skills by pounding out blues classics throughout the years, the Lowdown has managed to come into their “own.” They have developed and performed their original material with the same conviction as the artists that inspired them. These original songs are sure to become classics in their own right.
