Joe Thompson Obituary

Thompson, Joe Joseph “Joe” Thompson, age 76 of Walker, MI passed away Friday, December 28, 2018 following a battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorraine and Thane “Tom” Thompson. Joe is survived by his wife Mary; children, Lori Nyenhuis, Lisa Thompson and Jeff (Heather) Rolfe; grandchildren, Nick and Adam Nyenhuis, Sandra Kortes, Elaine (Russ) Marzean, Electra and Kaileigh Rolfe; great-grandson, Benjamin Winkler; siblings, Elaine (Frank) Doran, Pat (Ernie) Japp and Ellen Kennedy; in-laws, Alma (Dick) Desjardent, Kitty (Chuck) Fritz and Tom Marshall. Joe retired after 29 years from General Motors in 2007. He loved spending time with family and friends, playing pool with his good friend Gary (Pauline) Opaleski, traveling out west, watching old western movies and sailing. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Per Joe’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at St. George’s Hall, (1513 Quarry Ave. NW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504) on January 19, 2019 from 1-3 PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to Faith Hospice (2100 Raybrook Ave. SE, # 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546).Published in Grand Rapids Press on Jan. 6, 2019

    Joe was always nice and friendly. He made me feel comfortable. We both played bass guitar for Don Henke. I’ll never forget his kindness. Rest In Peace Joe. My thoughts and prayers for Mary and the family.
