Little Kids

Grand Rapids

The Little Kids band was formed in 1980 by singer-songwriters Chuc Steed and his cousin, Connie Moomey. Together with vocalists Ken Peters and Tim Pfifer, they created original, vocally driven material with an eclectic mix of funk, folk, whimsy and politically conscious themes. Randy Marsh, Dave Spring and Greg Poltrock served as the core rhythm section and other family and friends showed up on their studio recording Zoo Ooz, in 1980.

The Little Kids often appeared theatrically dressed, including clown makeup, tuxedos, bohemian style or whatever robes fit the song or gig. Randy Marsh would claim Chuc Steed, his cousin, was a musical genius and that, today, his music would be categorized between Peter Gabriel and Frank Zappa.  The band did not have many places to share their original music in 1980, but one seminal performance was at the Biermeister on Wealthy Street, in a fund raiser concert for WEHB-FM Radio.

The Little Kids band  produced several music videos at the public access TV studio, WKTV, in Wyoming, Michigan. The musicians played in real time, while theatrics and video effects were added.

Chuck Steed worked at Yamaha with me for a little while…Very talented guy…I’ve got a vinyl disc of a special recording they did…Very “Zappa” like….. Keith Dummer
